About
Carlos Arnaiz is the founder and principal of CAZA (Carlos Arnaiz Architects), a research-driven practice he established in 2009. The firm is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, and keeps studios in Manila, Bogota, and Lima, letting it move between North American, Latin American, and Philippine commissions. Arnaiz holds a Master of Architecture from Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, where he was recognized with the Wheelwright Prize and the Alpha Rho Chi medal, and an undergraduate degree from Williams College. He teaches as an adjunct assistant professor at Pratt Institute's Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Design.
CAZA first drew international attention with the 100 Walls Church in Cebu City, a chapel built from one hundred concrete walls of varying sizes that stand for the commonality and difference among churchgoers. The practice has since delivered institutional and commercial work in the Philippines, including La Salle Church in Binan and towers in Bonifacio Global City. Alongside the studio, Arnaiz co-founded SURBA, a Studio for Urban Analysis focused on urbanization in developing countries, extending his work from single buildings into questions of city-making.
