Dominic Galicia

About

Dominic Galicia is a Manila-based architect whose practice, Dominic Galicia Architects, has worked since 2001 across three interconnected areas: heritage conservation, liturgical architecture, and sustainable design. A modernist by philosophy, he pairs contemporary form with a deep concern for significant architectural sites.

He is best known for the National Museum of Natural History in Rizal Park, Manila, where his practice inserted the "Tree of Life" into the courtyard of the former Department of Tourism building. The centerpiece is a roughly 40-meter glass dome carried on a tree-like steel framework, with a double-helix structure evoking DNA and a glass elevator rising through its trunk. The museum opened to the public in 2018.

Galicia has been a leading voice in Philippine heritage. He served as president of ICOMOS Philippines from 2014 to 2017 and represents the country on the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Twentieth-century Heritage.

Recent work includes the Kilyawan Farm Resort in Ibaan, Batangas, an adaptive reuse of a former egg farm that was Highly Commended at the 2023 World Architecture Festival, alongside liturgical commissions such as a church in Evo City, Cavite.
