What they do
8X8 Design Studio Co. is a Makati architecture and interior design practice founded in 2012 by principal architects Pearl Robles-Alfonso and Adrian Lorenzo Alfonso, working across residential, commercial and hospitality projects with a modern, materially driven approach.
The two met in 2008 at Joey Yupangco's studio and collaborated on competitions before formalizing the practice. That work brought early recognition, including selection for the Philippine Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, "Muhon: Traces of an Adolescent City."
The firm's best-documented project is PK House, or Project Kubo, a roughly 2,400-square-meter weekend retreat completed in 2023 on a hilltop in Calatagan, Batangas, overlooking Balayan Bay. It reinterprets the bahay-kubo as a sequence of layered planes stepping up the hill, and has been featured on ArchDaily, Kanto and BluPrint.
