What they do

Barchan Architecture is a contemporary-Filipino studio whose work follows a philosophy it calls "Random Responses": context, not a fixed style, shapes each building, in a mission to contemporize Filipino architecture.

The firm was founded in 2006 as Buensalido + Architects by Jason Buensalido, who topped the 2005 architecture board exam and trained at the Architectural Association in London. In April 2024, on its eighteenth year, it rebranded as Barchan, after the crescent desert dune shaped by its surroundings without depleting them, alongside partner Nikki Boncan-Buensalido and an associate collective.

In 2025 it was named Asia's Best Firm in Architecture Design at the AADA. A year earlier, at its 2024 rebrand, it was named Architecture and Design Firm of the Year at the UAP Design Awards and released its monograph "Shifting Sands." Documented work ranges from the fractal-geometry home Casa Uccello to The Terraces at Dao, an office-and-warehouse complex in Marikina.
