What they do

Carlo Calma Consultancy is the art-meets-architecture studio of Juan Carlo Calma, work that blurs the line between sculpture and building and threads a contemporary Filipino identity through luxury homes, cultural commissions and interiors.

Calma (born 1981) studied fine art at the California College of the Arts and architecture at the Architectural Association in London, and incubated the studio in 2009. He belongs to the Calma family of Filipino designers, and the practice is distinct from Lor Calma & Partners, the modernist firm of Ed Calma.

His best-known commission is WOVEN, the Philippine Pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, covered by ArchDaily and Forbes; Tatler named him to Asia's Most Influential in 2021. The residential portfolio is sculptural and material-led, from the Galvanized House, inspired by Manila's "yero" roofing, to the Infinity House (2019) and the Brutalist House (2015).
