What they do

Lor Calma & Partners was founded in 1975 by Lorenzo "Lor" Calma, a pillar of Philippine modernism and a pioneer of the country's interior design profession, who died in January 2026 at the age of 97. The practice spans architecture, space planning, interior design and furniture and lighting manufacturing, working across corporate, residential, hospitality and cultural projects.

It is now led by Lor's son, Eduardo "Ed" Calma, the firm's design principal. Ed studied at Pratt Institute and earned a master's in advanced architectural design from Columbia University in 1994, then practised in New York for about twelve years, including work with Carlos Zapata and Peter Pran, before returning to take over and expand his father's firm. His work runs to a sculptural modernism of clean lines, glass and futuristic form; signature commissions include The Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City and the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde School of Design and Arts.

On the residential side, the Pflieder Residence wraps a tropical home in a perforated-brick "clay cocoon" facade that gives privacy and natural ventilation while glowing from within at night; it won an architectural design prize at the Outstanding Property Award London (OPAL) in 2024. The firm is distinct from Carlo Calma Consultancy, a separate Makati practice led by a relative, Juan Carlo Calma.
